Morning Prayer
Good morning, Lord. Thank You for the gift of waking up to a brand new day, for breath in our lungs, for the light coming through the window, and for the simple mercies that greet us before we have even had a chance to ask. You did not have to give us this day, yet here it is, fresh and full of possibility. We receive it with open hands and grateful hearts, trusting that You have already gone ahead of us into every hour that is waiting.
So often we wait for the big moments to prove our faith, the dramatic decisions and the important turning points. But most of our days are made of ordinary things: dishes in the sink, emails to answer, errands to run, a phone call to return, a child who needs our patience, a coworker who needs a kind word. Today, help us see that these small things matter to You. Teach us to be faithful in them, to do the quiet work well even when no one is watching, and to treat each humble task as an offering of love. Let our honesty show up in the little choices, our kindness in the brief encounters, and our diligence in the jobs that never make headlines. Remind us that a life of faithfulness is built one small, steady step at a time.
Guard us from the temptation to cut corners or to think that the minor things do not count. Where we have been careless with the little things You have entrusted to us, our time, our words, our relationships, our resources, forgive us and give us a fresh start this morning. Fill us with joy in the ordinary, so that we stop rushing past the present while we wait for something bigger. And as we go about this day, let our steady faithfulness become a quiet witness to Your goodness, pointing others toward the God who notices every sparrow and every small act of love. We place this whole day in Your hands, the big moments and the small ones alike. Amen.
A Word of Reflection
Jesus offered a simple principle that reshapes how we see an ordinary day: “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” (Luke 16:10, KJV) It is easy to assume that our faith is tested mainly in grand moments, but this verse suggests the opposite. Character is formed in the small, unseen places, in how we keep our word, how we treat the person in front of us, and how we handle what has been placed in our care. When we are faithful in little things, we are being prepared for greater things, and we are honoring God right where we are. Today, let us embrace the ordinary tasks ahead as holy opportunities to show our love for Him.
