Morning Prayer

Good and generous God, thank You for the gift of this new morning and the start of a new week. Before the emails, the errands, and the noise of the day begin, we pause to simply say thank You. Thank You for breath in our lungs, for the rest of the weekend behind us, and for the chance to begin again. Every sunrise is a reminder that Your mercies have not run out, and we receive this one with open and grateful hearts.

Lord, as this season turns our thoughts toward thanksgiving, we ask You to grow in us a heart that notices Your goodness everywhere. It is so easy for us to rush past our blessings and dwell on what is missing. Slow us down today. Help us see the gifts hidden in plain sight: a warm cup in our hands, a friend who checks in, work to do and strength to do it, a roof over our heads and food on our tables. Open our eyes to the people around us who are gifts in themselves, and give us the courage to tell them so. Let gratitude shape the way we speak, the way we listen, and the way we respond when things do not go our way.

We also bring You the parts of our lives where thankfulness feels hard right now. Some of us are carrying grief, uncertainty, or exhaustion into this Monday. Meet us there, gently. Remind us that giving thanks is not pretending everything is fine; it is trusting that You are good even when life is complicated. Let our gratitude become an act of faith, a way of saying that You have been faithful before and You will be faithful again. Go before us into every meeting, every classroom, every quiet task at home. May everything we do this week be offered back to You with thanksgiving. Amen.

A Word of Reflection

The psalmist invites us to “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name” (Psalm 100:4, KJV). Thanksgiving is pictured here as the doorway into God’s presence, the very way we draw near to Him. A grateful heart is not reserved for days when everything goes well; it is a posture we can choose each morning. When we begin the week by naming His gifts, we see our circumstances in a truer light. May gratitude be the gate we walk through again and again, today and all week long.
