Morning Prayer — Obedience | Monday, May 18, 2026

Morning Prayer

Good and faithful God, thank you for this Monday — a fresh start wrapped in your grace. We did not earn this morning, and we cannot predict what it will hold, but we welcome it with open hands because you are already in it. Before the calendar fills and the notifications begin, we pause to acknowledge that this day belongs to you. We ask for hearts that are soft enough to hear your voice and willing enough to follow where you lead.

Obedience can feel like a heavy word — serious, demanding, even rigid. But when we understand it as a response to love, it becomes something beautiful. You are not a God who commands us from a distance; you are the One who walks beside us, who knows our name, who delights in our flourishing. When we say yes to your direction — even the small, quiet nudges throughout the day — we are not surrendering our freedom. We are stepping into it. Help us this week to be quick to listen and slow to insist on our own way.

As this new week unfolds, may every decision we make carry the fingerprints of your guidance. In the meetings and the mundane tasks, in the conversations that challenge us and the ones that refresh us, let our lives be a quiet, steady expression of trust. We don’t need to understand every step to take the next one. We simply need to trust the One who does.

A Word of Reflection

There is a kind of blessing that comes not from knowing all the right answers, but from living in alignment with the One who does. “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Luke 11:28) Jesus spoke these words as an invitation — not a demand — reminding us that the good life is found in attentiveness to God’s voice. This week, let obedience be less about perfection and more about orientation. Turn your ear toward God in the morning, and let that direction carry you through the day.
