Morning Prayer

Good morning, faithful God. Before the to-do lists and the notifications find us, we pause to simply say thank You. Thank You for the breath in our lungs, for the gift of waking up, and for the mercy that meets us fresh with every sunrise. Thank You for the people we will see today, for the roof over our heads, and for the countless small blessings we so often overlook. We begin this day not by asking for more, but by recognizing how much we have already been given.

We confess that gratitude does not always come easily to us. When plans fall apart, when bodies ache, when bills pile up or relationships feel strained, our hearts drift toward worry and complaint. Teach us today to give thanks in every circumstance, not because every circumstance is good, but because You are good in every circumstance. Open our eyes to see Your hand at work in the ordinary: a kind word from a coworker, a quiet cup of coffee, a child’s laughter, a moment of unexpected peace. Let thankfulness become the lens through which we see everything that happens today.

Help us to speak our gratitude out loud, too. Remind us to thank the people who serve us, support us, and love us, and let our appreciation lift their spirits. Where we are tempted to compare our lives with others, turn our attention back to Your faithfulness in our own story. Fill this day with a quiet, steady joy that does not depend on everything going our way. We give You this day and everything in it, trusting that You will walk beside us from the first hour to the last. Amen.

A Word of Reflection

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18, KJV) We often wonder what God’s will is for our lives, and here Scripture answers part of that question plainly. Notice that Paul says “in” every thing, not “for” every thing; we are not asked to be thankful for pain, but to keep giving thanks even in the middle of it. Gratitude is a choice that reshapes how we see our circumstances, turning our attention from what is missing to the God who is present. When we practice thankfulness, worry loosens its grip and contentment begins to grow. Today, let each small “thank You” be an act of trust in the One who holds every moment.
