Morning Prayer
Good morning, loving God. Thank You for the gift of this new day, for the breath in our lungs and the quiet moments before the world begins to rush in. We come to You at the end of a long week, and we will be honest with You: some of us are tired. Our bodies feel it, our minds feel it, and sometimes our spirits feel it most of all. We have carried a great deal these past few days, and we are grateful that we do not have to pretend with You. You already know how heavy our hearts have been, and You welcome us anyway.
This morning we accept Your gentle invitation to come to You and find rest. Not the kind of rest that only comes when every task is done, but the deeper rest of knowing we are held by Someone stronger than ourselves. Help us to set down the burdens we were never meant to carry alone. Where we have been striving to prove ourselves, remind us that we are already loved. Where we have been running on empty, fill us again with Your strength. Teach us to work today from a place of peace rather than pressure, and to find small moments of stillness with You along the way.
We lift up everyone who wakes this morning feeling worn out and overwhelmed: parents caring for little ones, workers facing another demanding shift, those caring for sick loved ones, and anyone quietly carrying grief. Meet each of us right where we are. Let Your rest settle over our homes, our workplaces, and our conversations, so that others might sense Your calm in us. As we step into this day, may we walk a little lighter, knowing that You are gentle and humble in heart, and that in You our souls can finally breathe. Amen.
A Word of Reflection
Jesus speaks some of the most comforting words in all of Scripture: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29) His invitation is not reserved for those who have it all together; it is offered to the weary, the burdened, and the worn thin. A yoke was made to share the weight, and Jesus promises to walk beside us and carry the heavier load. The rest He offers is not an escape from life but a new way of living it, rooted in His gentleness instead of our own striving. This morning, whatever we are carrying, we can bring it to Him and receive the rest our souls have been longing for.
