Evening Prayer
As this day draws to a close, we come to You with open hands, letting go of everything we tried to carry on our own. There were moments today when we wanted to be seen, to be right, to be first — and in those moments, we ask for the grace to release our pride. Teach us that true strength is found not in standing tall before others, but in kneeling low before You.
We think of the small ways pride crept in today — the impatience, the need to prove ourselves, the quiet comparisons we made with those around us. We lay each one down now. Help us to remember that we are not defined by how much we accomplish or how highly others regard us, but by how faithfully we walk with You. There is a peace that comes from letting go of the need to be exalted, and we ask to feel that peace tonight.
As we close this day, we ask for humble hearts — hearts that make room for others, that listen more than they speak, that trust You more than they trust themselves. Let humility be the quiet thread woven through tomorrow, guiding every word and every step. We rest now in Your grace, grateful that You meet us not in our strength, but in our surrender.
A Word of Reflection
Humility is not weakness — it is the doorway through which grace enters. When we set aside our pride, we make space for God to work in ways we never could on our own. “God opposes the proud but shows grace to the humble” (James 4:6) reminds us that lowering ourselves before God is never a loss; it is an invitation. Tonight, as we release the weight of needing to be right or recognized, we open ourselves to a deeper kind of strength — one rooted not in ego, but in trust. May this humility carry us gently into rest, and into whatever tomorrow holds.
