Morning Prayer
Thank You, Lord. Before anything else today — before the to-do list, before the calendar fills up, before we even know how this day will unfold — we want to begin here, in gratitude. There is so much to be thankful for, and we confess that we often walk past the most ordinary gifts without pausing to notice them: the morning itself, the people in our lives, the breath that carries our prayers to You. Today we want to see them. We want to be people who move through the world with open eyes and grateful hearts.
Gratitude has a way of reorienting everything. When we begin with thankfulness, we find that even the hard parts of the day look different — not smaller necessarily, but held within a larger story of goodness that we know is true. So we enter this day choosing to count what we have been given rather than cataloguing what is missing. Not as a way of pretending life is easy, but as an act of faith that You are good, that Your mercies are real, and that there is more grace surrounding us than we often take the time to notice.
Walk with us through this Friday, Lord. Let our gratitude be contagious — let it spill over into the way we treat others, the way we speak, and the way we show up. We are grateful to be alive, grateful to be known by You, and grateful for every good thing You have placed along the path before us.
A Word of Reflection
Gratitude is not just a feeling — in Scripture, it is a practice, a posture, a way of entering into God’s presence. The psalmist calls us to it with joy: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name” (Psalm 100:4). Notice that thanksgiving is the doorway — the thing we bring as we draw near. Beginning the day with a grateful heart is not a spiritual nicety; it is an act of remembrance, a deliberate choice to acknowledge the source of every good thing in our lives.
