Evening Prayer — Courage for Whatever Comes | Friday, October 23, 2026

Evening Prayer

Gracious God, as the light fades and the week draws to its close, we come to You with quiet hearts. This morning we asked for courage to meet whatever the day would bring, and now we return to tell You that You were faithful through every hour. Some of us faced conversations we had dreaded, decisions we were unsure of, or burdens that felt heavier than we expected. Others walked through ordinary moments that still required a steady heart. In all of it, You were near. Thank You for the strength that rose up in us when we needed it, and for the grace that covered us when we fell short. We lay this day before You now, finished and complete, and we release it into Your keeping.

Lord, we confess that our courage is never really our own. When we stood firm, it was because You held us up. When we spoke with kindness instead of fear, it was Your Spirit moving within us. When we stumbled or held back, You did not turn away from us. So tonight we lay down the worries we carried and the questions we could not answer. We trust that what remains unfinished is safe in Your hands. Quiet the restless thoughts that try to follow us into the night, and replace them with the calm assurance that You are our light, even in the dark. Let us rest without fear of tomorrow, because tomorrow already belongs to You.

As we close our eyes, we give You thanks for carrying us through this week. Watch over the people we love, comfort those who are lying awake in worry, and give strength to anyone who feels afraid tonight. Renew our hearts as we sleep, so that when we rise again, we may face whatever comes with the same courage You poured into us today. We rest in Your peace, and we place ourselves fully in Your care. Amen.

A Word of Reflection

At the end of a long day, the courage we asked for in the morning often looks different than we imagined. It may not have felt bold or heroic; sometimes it was simply the willingness to keep going, to be honest, or to trust when the way was unclear. Scripture reminds us where that courage comes from: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1, KJV). When God is our light, the darkness of night holds nothing that can overcome us. When He is our strength, we do not need to carry tomorrow’s fears to bed with us. Tonight, we can rest knowing that the same God who gave us courage for today is already waiting in the morning.
