Morning Prayer
Thank You for morning, God of new beginnings. Thank You for breath that came without our asking for it, for light that arrived without our arranging it, for a day that is not yet marked by anything we have done or failed to do. Before we reach for the calendar or the phone or the first worry waiting at the edge of our minds, we want to reach for You, and say plainly what is true: we are glad to be here, and we are glad You are here with us.
We come into this day carrying hope, and we want to carry it honestly. Not the thin kind that crosses its fingers and looks away from hard things, but the kind that has looked at them squarely and still expects good from You. Some of us are hoping for news. Some are hoping for healing, or for a door to open, or simply for the strength to keep showing up somewhere difficult. Teach us to set that hope where it will bear weight — not on the outcomes we have imagined for ourselves, but on Your character, which has not shifted once in all our years of leaning on it.
Where we have been disappointed before, heal what that left behind, and give us courage to hope again anyway. Make us people who carry hope to others today: a word of encouragement offered on purpose, patience where we would rather hurry, kindness toward someone who has stopped expecting any. Whatever these hours hold, let us walk through them with our heads up and our hearts open, sure of You even when we are unsure of everything else. We ask it gladly, and we trust You with the answer. Amen.
A Word of Reflection
Hope has a reputation for being fragile, but Scripture treats it as something solid. “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:5) The promise here is not that every hope will be answered exactly as we pictured it, but that hope placed in God will never leave us ashamed for having trusted Him. Notice what the verse offers as evidence: not a guarantee about our circumstances, but love already poured out — a gift given in advance, before we knew how any of the story would go. That love is what we carry into an uncertain day. So when hope feels like a risk this morning, we can remember that it rests on something already given, not on something still being decided.
