Morning Prayer
Good morning, Lord. Thank You for the gift of a brand-new week and for the quiet moments of this early hour before the day fully begins. Thank You for the rest You gave us over the weekend, for the breath in our lungs, and for the simple mercy of waking up to try again. Before the emails arrive and the schedule starts to fill, we want to begin right here, with You, grateful that You are already present in every hour ahead of us.
We confess that Mondays can bring a flood of worry. There are plans to make and problems to solve, and our minds are quick to run ahead to everything that could go wrong. Some of us are anxious about work or money. Some of us are carrying concerns for our families, our health, or people we love who are struggling. Lord, we bring all of it to You now. Rather than letting our worries rule the day, we choose to turn each one into a prayer. We ask You for what we need, and we thank You in advance for how You have always provided. Guard our hearts today with Your peace, the kind that does not depend on circumstances going our way.
As we step into this week, help us carry that peace with us wherever we go. When pressure rises, let us pause and remember that You are near. When conversations turn tense, give us gentle words and calm spirits. When we feel overwhelmed, remind us that we do not have to hold the whole week in our hands at once, only this day, and only with You beside us. Let our peace be a quiet witness to the people around us, pointing them toward the One who gives it. We place this Monday and every day that follows in Your faithful care. Amen.
A Word of Reflection
Paul wrote to the church in Philippi from a prison cell, yet his words overflow with calm confidence: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV). This is not a command to pretend our worries do not exist. It is an invitation to hand them over, one by one, with thankful hearts. The promise that follows is beautiful: God’s peace stands guard over us like a sentry at the door of our hearts. We may not understand how that peace can hold when life is uncertain, but that is exactly the point. As we begin this week, we can trust that the God who hears our prayers is also the One who keeps us.
