Evening Prayer
Lord, as this Wednesday draws to a close, we come before You with grateful hearts — tired perhaps, but not without hope. Today asked things of us. It called us to step forward when stepping back would have been easier, to speak when silence felt safer, to press on when the weight of the day told us to give up. And yet, here we are. We made it through, and we did not make it alone.
We confess that courage does not always feel like strength. Sometimes it feels like trembling hands and a quiet prayer whispered under our breath. But You have always met us in those trembling moments, God — steadying us, reminding us that You go before us. We release this day into Your hands now. Whatever we did well, we thank You. Whatever fell short, we trust Your grace to cover it. Let our hearts be still tonight, grounded not in our own strength, but in Yours.
As we rest, we ask that You prepare us again. Tomorrow holds its own uncertainties, its own places where courage will be needed. May we wake with the assurance that You are already there — that every path ahead has been walked first by You. Be our peace tonight, Lord. Be our courage again in the morning. Amen.
A Word of Reflection
Courage is not the absence of fear — it is the decision to trust God despite it. The words of Scripture remind us of this truth plainly and powerfully: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). These words were spoken to someone standing at the edge of the unknown, and they are spoken to us tonight as well. We do not have to manufacture bravery on our own. When we lean into God’s presence, we discover that His nearness is itself our courage. Rest in that tonight.
