Evening Prayer — Compassion | Tuesday, July 21, 2026

Evening Prayer

As this day winds down, we think about the people we encountered — some easy to be patient with, others who tested it. Tonight, we ask forgiveness for the moments we responded with irritation instead of kindness, and we thank You for the times we managed to see past someone’s rough edges to the person underneath.

It’s humbling to realize how much compassion we’ve been given, and how easily we sometimes withhold it from others. We think of anyone we judged too quickly today, anyone we brushed past without noticing their weariness. Help us release any hardness that crept into our hearts, and replace it with the same gentleness we’ve so often received from You.

As we close this day, let compassion be the last posture of our hearts before rest — not judgment, not frustration, but a soft willingness to understand. Thank You for meeting our own shortcomings with endless patience, and let that patience overflow through us tomorrow.

A Word of Reflection

Compassion is easiest to offer to people who deserve it, and hardest — yet most needed — for those who don’t seem to. “Clothe yourselves with compassion” (Colossians 3:12) reminds us that kindness is a choice we put on deliberately, not a feeling we wait to arrive. Tonight, whatever frustration lingers, we can set it down and choose gentleness instead, trusting that the same mercy shown to us is meant to flow outward.
