Morning Prayer
Faithful God, thank You for the gift of this new morning. Before the day begins to pull at our attention, we pause to notice the breath in our lungs, the light coming through the window, and the quiet assurance that You are already here. You have carried us safely through the night, and we greet this day with grateful hearts. Whatever waits for us in the hours ahead, we want to begin it by turning our faces toward You.
We come to You this morning longing for a hope that holds. So much around us shifts and changes: plans fall through, news unsettles us, and our own feelings rise and fall like waves. In the middle of all that movement, we ask You to be our anchor. Steady us when we feel pulled in many directions. When discouragement creeps in, remind us that our hope does not rest on circumstances going our way, but on Your promises, which never fail. Help us remember that You have been faithful in every season before this one, and You will be faithful in this one too. Let that confidence settle deep within us so that we can face today’s challenges without fear.
Make us people of hope for those around us as well. Give us words of encouragement for a friend who feels adrift, patience for a coworker who is struggling, and gentleness toward anyone who has lost their footing. Where we see despair, help us point quietly toward You. Guide our choices, guard our hearts, and keep us close to You in every conversation and every task. We place this whole day in Your hands, trusting that You are good and that You are with us. Amen.
A Word of Reflection
The writer of Hebrews offers a beautiful picture of the hope we have in God: “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast.” (Hebrews 6:19, KJV) An anchor does not stop the wind or calm the waves, but it keeps a ship from drifting away when storms arrive. In the same way, our hope in God does not remove every difficulty from our lives, yet it holds us steady when everything else feels uncertain. This hope is not wishful thinking; it is rooted in the unchanging character of the One who made us and keeps His promises. As we step into this day, let us hold fast to that anchor and trust that it will not give way.
