Morning Prayer
Good morning, faithful God. Thank You for the gift of a new day and for the quiet moment to begin it with You before the noise of the world rushes in. Thank You for the breath in our lungs, for the people we love, and for the simple fact that Your mercy has met us again this morning. We come to You with open hearts, aware of how much we need You and how often we try to find our own way without first asking for Yours.
Today, Lord, we ask You to guide us by Your Word. So many voices compete for our attention, each one promising to show us the right path, and it is easy to feel unsure of which way to turn. Be our steady light. When decisions feel cloudy, bring Your truth to mind and help us to recognize it. When we are tempted to rush ahead, slow us down long enough to listen. When the road in front of us seems dark, show us just enough of it to take the next faithful step. We do not ask to see the whole journey at once; we ask only to walk it with You, trusting that Your light will be enough for each moment as it comes.
Plant Your Word deep in our hearts this morning so that it shapes our thoughts, softens our words, and directs our choices. Let Scripture be more than something we read; let it be something we live. Help us to speak with kindness, to work with integrity, and to treat each person we meet as someone You dearly love. Where we have wandered from Your ways, gently call us back. And as this day unfolds, may others see in us a reflection of the light You have given, so that they, too, might find their way to You. We give You this day and everything in it, grateful that we never walk it alone. Amen.
A Word of Reflection
The psalmist offers a simple and beautiful picture of how God leads us: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105, KJV). A lamp in the ancient world did not flood the whole road with light; it lit only the ground right in front of the traveler. In the same way, God’s Word rarely shows us every detail of the future at once, but it always gives us enough light for the next step. That is an invitation to trust rather than to worry, and to stay close to the Source of the light. When we make time for Scripture at the start of the day, we carry that lamp with us into every conversation and decision. However uncertain the path feels, we are never left to walk it in the dark.
