Evening Prayer
Faithful God, as the light fades and the house grows quiet, we come to You with tired hands and grateful hearts. This morning we asked You for strength for the journey, and now, looking back over the hours, we can see where You gave it. You carried us through conversations we were unsure how to begin, tasks that felt heavier than we expected, and moments when our patience ran thin. Some of the road was smooth and some of it was steep, but You never once left us to walk it alone. Thank You for every quiet provision we noticed, and for the many more we were too busy to see.
We confess that we did not always lean on You the way we meant to. There were times today when we pushed ahead in our own power, and times when worry crept in and made the path feel longer than it was. Forgive us for the moments we forgot that our strength was never meant to come from ourselves. Tonight we lay down every unfinished thing, every burden we picked up along the way, and every concern that wants to follow us into sleep. We place them in Your hands, trusting that You are able to hold what we cannot.
As we rest, renew what the day has spent. Restore our bodies, settle our minds, and refresh our spirits so that we wake ready for whatever tomorrow asks of us. Watch over the people we love, and comfort anyone who ends this day weary or discouraged. Let our sleep be a picture of trust, a simple way of saying that the journey is Yours and we are content to be carried. We close this day in Your peace, and we thank You that Your strength does not run out when ours does.
A Word of Reflection
By evening, most of us can feel how much the day has taken out of us, and that honest weariness is not something to hide from God. The psalmist named it plainly: “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” (Psalm 73:26, KJV) There is great freedom in admitting that our own reserves run dry, because it turns our attention to the One whose supply never does. The strength we prayed for this morning was never a reward for holding it all together; it was a gift that met us exactly where we fell short. Tonight, we can rest in the truth that God remains our portion even while we sleep. Tomorrow’s road will come with tomorrow’s grace, and He will be there to walk it with us again.
