Morning Prayer

Good morning, Lord. Thank You for the gift of this new day and for the light that greets us as we open our eyes. Before the emails, the errands, and the long list of things waiting for our attention, we want to pause here with You. You have brought us safely through the night, and we receive this morning as a fresh beginning, full of possibility and held entirely in Your care. We are grateful to simply be with You before the day begins.

Today we ask for the grace to walk in Your light. So often we try to see too far ahead, wanting the whole map before we take a single step. Yet You rarely show us everything at once. Instead, You give us just enough light for the next faithful choice, the next kind word, the next honest decision. Help us to be content with that. When the way feels uncertain, remind us that we do not need to see the end of the road to trust the One who is leading us down it. Let Your Word shape our thoughts, steady our reactions, and guide the small decisions that quietly add up to a life.

We also pray that we would carry Your light to others today. May the people we meet find a little more warmth, patience, and hope because we were near. Where there is confusion, let us bring clarity; where there is discouragement, let us offer encouragement; where there is darkness, let us point gently toward You. Keep our hearts open and our steps steady, and when we drift into shadow, call us back into the brightness of Your presence. We give You this day, every hour of it, and we choose to walk it with You.

A Word of Reflection

An ancient lamp did not flood an entire valley with light; it lit only the few feet in front of the traveler, and that was enough to keep walking safely. The psalmist used that image when he prayed, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105, KJV) God’s guidance often works the same way, giving us clarity for today rather than a full view of every tomorrow. That can feel uncomfortable, but it invites us into a daily, step-by-step trust that keeps us close to Him. As we open His Word and listen for His leading this morning, we can take the next step with confidence. The light will be there for the step after that, too.
