Morning Prayer

Good morning, loving God. Thank You for the gift of this new day, for the breath in our lungs, the light spilling through the window, and the quiet moments before the world begins to rush. Before the emails arrive and the to-do lists take over, we want to start right here, with You. You have carried us through another night and set before us a fresh beginning, and we receive it with grateful hearts. Whatever this Friday holds, we know that it is held by You first.

Today we ask for one simple thing: help us to stay close to Your love. So often we treat Your love as something we visit now and then, a place we run to when life is hard and forget when things are going well. But You invite us to make our home there, to abide, to remain, to live every moment from the settled assurance that we are deeply and completely loved. Let that truth shape the way we speak to our families, the way we handle pressure at work, and the way we respond to people who test our patience. When we are tempted to measure our worth by what we accomplish, remind us that Your love was ours before we did a single thing.

We also bring to You the people on our hearts this morning. Some of them feel far from love right now, weighed down by loneliness, grief, illness, or regret. Let Your love reach them in ways we cannot, and if it is Your will, use us as part of the answer. Give us eyes to notice the person who needs a kind word, and the courage to offer it. As we move through this last day of the work week, keep us rooted and steady, not striving for Your approval but resting in it. Let everything we do today flow out of the love we have already received. We step into this day abiding in You, and we are grateful. Amen.

A Word of Reflection

Jesus spoke words of remarkable tenderness to His friends: “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love” (John 15:9, KJV). The measure of His love for us is the very love shared within the heart of God, which means it is neither fragile nor conditional. His invitation is not to earn that love but to continue in it, to stay and make our dwelling there. Abiding is less about effort and more about remaining connected, like a branch that draws life from the vine simply by staying attached. As we begin this day, we can choose again and again to remain in that love, letting it steady us and spill over into every encounter.
