Evening Prayer — Seeking Him First | Monday, November 2, 2026

Evening Prayer

Gracious God, as the light fades and the noise of this day finally settles, we come back to You with quiet hearts. This morning we asked for the grace to seek You before anything else, and now, at the close of the day, we lay before You everything that happened in between. We remember the moments when we turned toward You easily, when a word of thanks rose naturally or a decision was made with Your will in mind. We also remember the moments when other things crowded in first: the urgent emails, the worries, the small ambitions that pulled our attention away. We bring all of it to You without hiding, because You already know our hearts and love us still.

Thank You for staying close even when we wandered. Thank You for the food on our tables, the people who shared our hours, and the strength that carried us from morning until now. Where we chased lesser things, forgive us gently and draw us back. Where we sought You and found You waiting, let that memory settle deep within us so that tomorrow it comes a little more readily. Teach us that seeking You first is not a single choice made at sunrise but a returning, again and again, like a compass needle that always swings back to true north. Tonight we return once more.

Now we release this day into Your hands. The unfinished tasks, the conversations that did not go as we hoped, the questions we cannot yet answer, we leave them with You. We do not need to solve them tonight. As we rest, be the one thing our hearts desire above all else. Quiet our racing thoughts, ease our tired bodies, and let our final thoughts before sleep be of Your goodness. When we wake, may our first longing be for You. We rest in Your faithful presence, and we say amen.

A Word of Reflection

King David, a man with a kingdom to run and enemies on every side, narrowed his whole life down to a single desire: “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4, KJV). Evening is a fitting time to ask what our one thing was today. Most of us will find that our attention was divided, and that is exactly why we come back to God each night. Seeking Him first is less about getting every hour right and more about where our hearts keep returning. Tonight, let us simply turn toward Him again, trusting that His beauty is worth beholding and that He is glad to be found.
