Evening Prayer
God, as this day closes, we lay down the weight of all the ways we tried to be enough — the striving, the defending, the quiet competition we carried through our hours. You saw all of it, and you did not turn away. That alone is humbling.
Tonight we rest not in our own sufficiency, but in yours. We release the need to be right, to be seen, to be impressive. Let sleep remind us that the world turns without our effort, that you hold it and us, and that there is a profound peace in not being the center of things. We are grateful to be held. We are grateful to be known.
A Word of Reflection
There is something gentle about the end of the day — it has a way of returning us to what is true. The accomplishments fade, the opinions quiet, and we are left simply as we are. Humility thrives in that stillness. “God opposes the proud but shows grace to the humble” (James 4:6). By evening, we understand this more deeply — the day has shown us our limits, and grace has met us at every one of them. Rest tonight in the knowledge that being small before God is not a failure. It is exactly where the grace is.
