Morning Prayer — Watchfulness | Tuesday, June 9, 2026

Morning Prayer

Lord of every morning, we come to you at the start of this Tuesday aware that the world we are stepping into is not always a gentle one. There are distractions designed to pull us off course, pressures that can erode our peace, and voices that compete with yours for our attention. So before we enter all of that, we come here first — grounded in you, eyes open, spirits alert. Teach us today what it means to be watchful without being fearful, discerning without being suspicious, present without being overwhelmed.

Watchfulness, we are learning, is not about anxiety — it is about attentiveness. It is the posture of someone who knows the terrain, trusts the guide, and stays close to the path. Keep our hearts close to yours today, Lord. When we feel ourselves drifting — into distraction, into self-reliance, into the noise — draw us back gently. Let our awareness of your presence be the thread that runs through every meeting, every conversation, every quiet moment this Tuesday holds.

We do not face this day alone, and that changes everything. You go before us and behind us. You see what we cannot see. So we move forward this morning not on high alert but in settled confidence — watchful, grounded, and anchored in the one who holds all things together.

A Word of Reflection

The call to watchfulness in Scripture is never meant to stir up fear — it is meant to sharpen our focus. Peter writes with urgency and care: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). The warning is real, but so is the promise of protection for those who stay grounded in faith. As we move through this Tuesday, may we be people of clear eyes and steady hearts — alert to what matters and anchored in the one who never sleeps.
